VCAP6-CMA (Beta) - Objective 1.5: Create fabric groups utilizing reservations and reservation policies

This objective consists of below sub-objectives

· Configure fabric group (s) for specific tenants
· Allocate resources to a fabric group
· Assign users the necessary permissions to provision reservations
· Configure reservations for Business Groups
· Configure reservation policies for all resource types

Fabric Groups

An IaaS administrator can organize virtualization compute resources and cloud endpoints into fabric groups by type and intent. One or more fabric administrators manage the resources in each fabric group.

Fabric administrators are responsible for creating reservations on the compute resources in their groups to allocate fabric to specific business groups. Fabric groups are created in a specific tenant, but their resources can be made available to users who belong to business groups in all tenants.

· Configure fabric group (s) for specific tenants


1. login to vRA and go to Infrastructure > Groups > Fabric Groups
2. Click on New Fabric Group and Enter the
- Fabric Group Name
- Fabric Administrators
- Select the vCenter Cluster which would used for Cloud Reservation

· Configure reservation policies for all resource types


Fabric administrators use reservation policies to group similar reservations together. Create the reservation policy tag first, then add the policy to reservations to allow a tenant administrator or business group manager to use the reservation policy in a blueprint.

1. Go to Infrastructure > Reservations > Reservation Policies. Click on New Reservation Policy and Enter the Name and Description
2. Click on New Storage Reservation Policy and Enter the Name and Description

· Configure reservations for Business Groups


1. Go to  Infrastructure > Reservations > Reservations
2. Select New Reservation >  Virtual > vSphere (vCenter)
a. From the drop-down, select the vCenter Cluster, which will provide the resources for reservation
b. From the drop-down, select the Tenant, Business Group, Reservation Policy and Priority
3. Click on Resources tab and set the reservation
a. Memory reservation
b. Click on Edit for respective Datastore and size for Reservation and Priority. Click on green check to save.
c. Also, Resource pool could be select if it is in the selected Cluster in Step 2. 
4. Click on the Network tab and select the Network Path (Port Group) and Network Profile.
5. Click on the Alerts tab and set the percentage value
Note: Set the following thresholds for each resource. The system sends email notifications when the usage for a resource exceeds the threshold. 
6. Now click on Ok, to create the Reservation
